The CYC Internship is a one-year gap program for young adults aged 18 to 23 who want to grow in their faith, develop as leaders, and discover who they are created to be. This is an intentional year designed to help you build strong foundations for life, leadership, and ministry.
PURPOSEFUL FAITH FORMATION
Grow in your understanding of God, Scripture and who you are through regular teaching, mentoring and personal formation.
STUDY & TRAINING
Complete accredited study with Alphacrucis, working towards either a Diploma of Ministry or an Undergraduate Certificate of Ministry.
SERVE WITH CYC
Gain hands-on experience by serving alongside the CYC team in camps, programs, and ministry environments throughout the year.

The CYC Internship is more than time off before what’s next. It’s a focused year designed to help you grow in faith, confidence, and leadership while serving in real ministry environments.
Across the year, you’ll learn alongside others, be challenged in your thinking, and gain hands-on experience serving with CYC. With intentional mentoring, accredited study, and space to grow, the internship helps you step into what God is forming in you and prepares you for what comes next.
STUDY WITH ALPHACRUCIS college
GROW IN YOUR LEADERSHIP AND FAITH
Deepen your faith while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.
Interns will study at Alphacrucis University College in Melbourne CBD, choosing between:
- Diploma of Ministry (8 units): Equips you to lead in church or non-profit ministry.
- Undergraduate Certificate of Ministry (4 units): Builds foundational biblical knowledge and ministry skills, and prepares you for further study or roles in church and community settings

Step into hands-on ministry and real leadership development.
Throughout the year, Interns will work closely with a CYC staff member, supporting their area of ministry and taking responsibility for key tasks. Ministry areas include Primary, Teen or Family Camps, or Leadership Events.
You’ll gain real experience, grow in confidence, and develop your leadership in areas that match your passions and gifts.
This isn’t just observing ministry—it’s being part of the team that makes camp happen.
I loved the community that I got to be in with the other interns as well as the CYC staff, creating a bond with them that is everlasting. The internship has taught me how to become a better leader, how to lead alongside others as well as being led. I’ve also learned how to grow my faith, my understanding of the Bible and develop my personal vision."

What I really loved about the internship was the incredible community I built with other interns and Camp Directors. It’s really helped me to grow in leadership; to be able to recognise the areas I am strong in, as well as identify and be supported in areas that I want to grow in."
I started the internship with the goals of expanding my knowledge of camps and growing in my faith. I did both of these things as well as gaining many more friendships that will last a lifetime, learning how to look more deeply into what the Bible is saying and analyse it theologically. The internship is the year I’ve needed. It has been a great opportunity to rebuild and grow my relationship with Jesus, and gain a better understanding of the Bible and how to share it. CYC has provided a lot of support and care while also challenging me to advance my skills and step out into new areas."

I not only learnt more about myself, the Bible and how to be a leader, but I also learnt what it meant for my life and how I can use the things I learnt, to grow and continue growing."

The Internship helped me to learn new ways that God was present in my life and the lives of those around me by sharing my experiences, past and present, and to hear their experiences too. Being able to see the massive amount of work and energy that is put into each camp by the staff was amazing. This also helped in building my confidence in communication and presentation which led me to now work at CYC Forest Edge as a programmer running the activities and hosting groups on site."
This internship was far more than I expected. It provided constant growth, a safe space to explore biblical foundations, and helped me discover my passion for serving young people, leading me to study youth work, support people with disabilities, and continue ministry at my church."

The Internship begins with our Start of Year Retreat in February and concludes with a Closing Out Event
in December.
Throughout the year, Interns will engage in a weekly placement day in the CYC Ministries office, alongside weekly in-person classes at Alphacrucis University College. For Diploma students, this typically means around three days of contact each week. Interns are also expected to serve on the leadership team for at least two Holiday Camps during the year.
The CYC Internship is based primarily out of the CYC Ministries offices in Ringwood, Victoria. At times, we will also travel to our sites, as well as be off-site for retreats and residentials.
No, apart from attendance at the retreat and camp periods, this is not a live-in internship. You will be required to organise your own living arrangements. If you have any concerns about this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Students who complete the Diploma of Ministry may receive credit for up to one full time year toward a Bachelor level qualification in a relevant field. Those who complete the Undergraduate Certificate of Ministry will also receive credit that can contribute toward the Diploma, and eventually into a Bachelor of Ministry, Bachelor of Theology, or other related degrees at Alphacrucis University College.
Because the CYC Internship is based at the CYC Ministries offices not at one of our campsites, we are not able to offer work at any of our five sites.
